Since LIV Golf established, there has been a divide between PGA Tour players and those defecting to the Saudi-backed league.
It appears that the rift has drawn attention to two golf legends.
PGA Tour Champions breakfast speaker Fred Couples kicked off Hoag Classic week in Newport Beach this week.
When LIV Golf came up, he completely roasted Phil Mickelson.
According to the Orange County Register, Couples stated Tuesday, "If you're giving Phil Mickelson $200 million at age 52 to shoot 74 and 75, God bless you."
According to The Register, Couples called Mickelson a "nutbag" during his address,
but he also said he goes "still" like him and called him "probably one of the 10 best players who ever played."
Both Couples and Mickelson will be regarded as outstanding golfers,
but this latest struggle between the two golf leagues looks to have opened a rift between them. If it can be overcome, we'll see.
